In November 2022 (21st – 25th), James Bolton, TUS expert at IRIS, visited BRAVE facilities in Graz (Austria) to perform experiments with IRIS’ TUS sensor in Cnano’s nanoparticle suspensions, aligned with Case Study 5.
James performed a series of experiments to measure the turbidity (varying for this measurements several experimental parameters such as use of ultrasound, stirring and heating and observing their effect on the turbidity of the particle suspension) and from this obtain the particle size of the following particle suspensions:
- Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in SDS dispersant
- Silicon Carbide (SiC) nanoparticles in SDS dispersant
Additionally, James carried out DLS experiments on those suspensions.
The BRAVE and MUG teams, assisted James in activating the Cnano small scale reactor and preparing the SiC and TiO2 baths/samples, which were kept running while taking the measurements.
After the intensive experiments, IRIS, BRAVE and MUG colleagues showed James some of the culinary highlights of Graz:
