The PhD Day is an event organized by and for PhD students, offering them the opportunity to present their research to a wide audience with a background in chemistry. The event also offers newcomers the opportunity to participate in the poster session and share their work, as it is a great way to meet other PhD students and discuss their results in detail.
The 2024 edition of the PhD Day took place on 19 April at the Faculty of Chemistry in San Sebastian (Spain). It served as a nexus to bring together more than 130 students from UPV/EHU, POLYMAT, DIPC, CFM, nanoGUNE, biomaGUNE, CIDETEC and TECNALIA, among others, to learn more about the wide variety of scientific fields within chemistry represented at the faculty and have fun sharing science.
NanoPAT colleague Usue Olatz Aspiazu Iture from UPV/POLYMAT attended the event to highlight the importance and usefulness of particle size monitoring techniques in the field of emulsion polymerization, due to the effect that particle size and particle size distribution has on the final latex applications. Under the title “Real time monitoring of particle size in emulsion polymerization: Simultaneous Turbidity and Photon Density Wave Spectroscopy”, she discussed the particle size monitoring of polyacrylate latexes during semi-batch seeded emulsion polymerization processes by simultaneous analysis with inline Photon Density Wave (PDW) Spectroscopy and online Turbidity Spectroscopy (TUS).
