24 June 2021, 9:00 – 16:30h; hybrid (online / Berlin)
The final thematic Conference on Advanced Materials took place on 14 June 2021 as an hybrid event (online and in Berlin) with the main idea to disseminate and discuss the results of the project on advanced materials commissioned by the German Environmental Agency (UBA), and which was financed by the German Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
Approximately 100 participants from academia, industry, regulators NGOs attended the conference to jointly discuss governance options to foster safe and sustainable innovation, use and end of life of advanced materials and their applications. Discussions on the challenges brought about by advanced materials regarding regulation as well as categorisation based on regulatory needs took place. Governance of advanced materials and the innovation possibilities which Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) will bring were also discussed.
Blanca Suárez Merino (from NanoPAT partner TEMASOL), in her role of Director of Regulatory Affairs at NIA, attended this third and final Advanced Materials Conference. The information collected at this meeting will provide important insight into NanoPAT’s Task 7.4 (Safe-by-Design), and will help to evaluate if the PAT processes are susceptible to Safe-by-Design (SbD) implementation following a general advanced material overview or need dedicated implementation stages particular to on-line processes.
